For: Immediate Release

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE EVENT

Calgary, AB – November 4, 2025 – In a world facing disconnection, hardship and uncertainty, multi-award-winning saxophonist, vocalist, and composer Perpetual Awele Atife, known professionally as Perpie, invites audiences to reconnect through the power of live music, poetry  and storytelling with Roots in Motion: A JazzTale Project, explore themes that uniquely set us apart and purposefully connect us. The concert will take place at Grace Presbyterian Church in Calgary, Alberta.

Presented by Perpie & her One Village Orchestra, this immersive sonic and storytelling experience blends Jazz, Western Classical, and African musical  idioms to explore themes of love, community, grace, and hope. The musical dialogue aims to bridge cultures, generations, and emotions during a time when the world feels divided by economic, political, and social unrest.

“My artistry is largely influenced by the true concept of community.  A community that shares cultural and economic bonds in creative spaces,” shares the award-winning Saxaphonist. “Despite the brokenness today, community is like that unexplainable channel between divinity and humanity through which healing and beauty can be restored. So when I make art and centre practices and themes that remind us of us, it is intentional. In that harmony, anything is possible.

Known for her rich, lyrical tone and sold-out performances, Perpie is celebrated as one of Calgary’s leading live music artists, captivating audiences across the cultural spectrum—from Canadians and Africans in the diaspora to music lovers seeking soulful authenticity. Her performances have graced stages such as the Canadian Jazz Festival, Ethnik Festival, and the Studio Bell Performance Hall, where she produced her own orchestral concert Ije Live.

At Roots in Motion, audiences will be treated to exclusive new compositions that will later be recorded for Perpie’s upcoming album, a deeply personal body of work inspired by hope.
